The concept of what would become the Clover Foundation began in 2010, when the four Semakula brothers—Akram, Axum, Akrif and Abasi, living in Maynard, Massachusetts, realized that they had many toys that were no longer of use to them. With their parents, Salma and Abasi Semakula they developed the idea of providing the toys to children in need in Uganda. As a result, the Clover Children’s Toy Project was launched and many neighbors and friends, as well as the children’s schools, participated in annually filling one forty foot container of toys, books, clothing, and sports equipment that was distributed in Kampala and surrounding districts by the boys’ grandparents.
